2017 Super 60 Preview

While Wisconsin’s 2016 class is highlighted by a pair of high level position players, the 2017 class is more of an arms race at the top. This time next year we will be recapping the 2017 Super 60 and some of the likely names you will be hearing will be on the bump.

Top 2017 prospect in the state, LHP Augie Mihlbauer (Mukwonago HS), is a TCU commit and has sat at the No. 1 spot for about a year, and for good reason. Mihlbauer is an easy ¾ southpaw who we’ve seen in the upper 80’s on multiple occasions. Almost a lock for next year’s Super 60 roster, he’s not the only left-hander you will see out of the Badger State next year.

Ben Dragani (Catholic Memorial) has been a staple near the top of the class since his freshman year and is now flashing big velocity from the left side this winter. The Michigan recruit looks the part of a typical pitcher at 6-foot-5, 200-pounds and will stand out with his easy arm action and short hard slider.

Throw lefties Troy Hickey (Wilmot Union HS), Ryan Bader (Mukwonago HS) and Trevor Olson (Chippewa Falls HS) in the mix and you have a plethora of hot commodity left-handers that could be in the mix next year. Olson is the closest to looking the part of a draft prospect, at 6-foot-6 195-pounds he’s been up to 85 mph with a whippy arm action and a ton of raw abilities yet to be tapped.

RHP Jacob Lindemann (Burlington HS) is the only junior prospect in Wisconsin to hit 90 mph on our gun, and along with fellow RHP Nathan Burns (West Bend West) are likely candidates to represent their state next year as well.

One of the storylines of the 2016 Super 60 were the pitching prospects from Kansas (LHP Joey Wentz, RHP Cole Duensing and LHP Lucas Kroll), in particular the lefties. Don’t be shocked to hear a similar story line next year from Wisconsin.

Not to be outdone by the arms but there are a couple of power bats to note in this conversation of possible 2017 Super 60 candidates. 1B Griffin Doersching (Greendale HS) is about as strong as it gets for a 16 year old. At 6-foot-4, 250-pounds Doersching swings a big stick from the right side and moves much better than one would think on the infield. Also, keep an eye on the easy pop of OF Nicholas Elsen (Indian Trail HS). A Kent State commit, Elsen has the typical projectable frame that can stack on plenty of muscle. Presently he’s lean and rangy at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and creates a ton of easy juice in his right-handed bat.
