X-FACTOR

+ Much like he did last season, RHP/INF Jaxon Clayton is set to yet again lead the pitching rotation for the Lancers in 2024. In 2023, Clayton logged a 2.39 ERA en route to a 2-3 record. It is easy to see why Clayton will be considered one of this team's aces this season, as he features a fastball up to 90 mph, something we just saw at last weekend’s Madison Preseason ID. He also deploys a number of off-speed pitches starting with a sinker/cutter combo. His sinker, which sits in the upper-80s, features over a foot of natural arm-side run, and his cutter features slight cutting action in the lower-80s. He can spin in a pair of distinct breaking balls, too. His low-70s curveball plays with 11/5 action and also spins at an above average rate (avg. 2,600 RPM). The slider features tighter lateral action while spinning at a similar rate, and it rounds off his productive five-pitch mix. He will also be a piece in the offensive attack for the Lancers as our staff has seen him produce a number of hard hit contact in-game.

NEWCOMER TO WATCH

+ While he may not be considered a ‘Newcomer’ per se, LHP Colton Semmelmann (2026) will step into a much larger role in the Lancers rotation this season most likely. At the West Milwaukee Preseason ID Semmelmann arguably put together one of the cleanest and impressive ‘pens we have seen across our winter circuit. There the 6-foot-1, 176-pound southpaw ran his fastball up to 89 mph from a loose and athletic delivery. He also possesses an impressive feel for a sharp 1/7 curveball that spins at an above-average clip. Rounding out his three-pitch mix is a low-80s changeup with well over a foot of fade to his arm side. Last season Semmelmann earned some valuable varsity experience during his freshman season but heading into his sophomore year, he is set to be leaned on heavily throughout the season.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Last season the Lancers experienced an up-and-down year, en route to a 11-17 record. In 2024 they return a number of talented players and welcome a few underclassmen that are set to make some big impacts this season.

Besides the aforementioned Clayton and Semmelmann, RHP Jackson Gliszinski (2024) is another arm expected to see time in a starters role this season. He returns a 2-3 record from last year and pitched to an ERA of 4.72, too. RHP Sean Beug-Hoffman (2025) will also see a quality amount of time on the mound this season. Beug-Hoffman possesses a mid-80s fastball that we saw up to 86 mph back at the West Milwaukee Preseason ID in February. He also spins a pair of breaking balls that both spin at well above average rates, and also effectively kills spin on fading changeup.

Sean Beug-Hoffman (2/17/24)

RHP Vincent Bitter (2026) is another mid-to-upper-80s arm to know on this roster. Recently, he came away a huge winner from the annual Madison Preseason ID. There he ran his fastball up to 87 mph while also showing a pair of intriguing offspeed pitches. RHP/CIF Lawson Hink (2024) and RHP/INF Braylan Bigler (2025) are two other arms expected to see time out of the ‘pen this season, with both also contributing offensively, too.

One of the biggest pieces for the Lancers offense will undoubtedly be CIF Aren Robinson (2024; Gulf Coast State College commit). He is the only returner that surpassed the .300 mark last season and he will certainly be an intimidating presence in the heart of the Lancers lineup. Fellow seniors C Maverik Moore and C/OF/DH Christian Lim (Bryant and Stratton) are a pair of veteran leaders that will need to take on much larger roles for Brookfield Central this season, too. Rounding out the Lancers offense will be INF Brady Mohns (2026), OF Logan Rampetsreiter (2024) and OF Sam Guy (2024), all of whom will be looking to contribute during their first full seasons at the varsity level.

BOTTOM LINE

+ Despite undergoing a challenging season last year, the Lancers seem primed to make some noise inside of the always competitive Greater Metro. They feature an ultra-deep pitching staff, highlighted by a number of high-end prospects which can certainly keep them competitive all year. The offense shouldn’t be overlooked either, as a number of names will be looking to finish their prep careers on a high note.
