X-FACTOR

+ RHP Nolan Buss (2024; Kansas State commit) is the bonafide ace of this deep pitching staff, and currently ranks as Wisconsin’s No. 5 prospect in this year’s senior class. Buss has a polished arsenal in a 6-foot, 190-pound frame. It starts with the fastball for the right-hander, who ranges in the low-90s during his work on the mound. Our staff got Buss up to 93 mph in live action last spring, as the senior is controlled and balanced throughout his delivery. His complements are arguably some of the best in the state—including two sharp breaking balls that garner swings and misses from opponents. Buss is comfortable with both of his secondaries, which doesn’t even involve a mature changeup that he has gone to consistently in the past. Buss is fresh off of a 5-1 record in a tough Classic Eight Conference, and his presence as the ace of this staff will be key to Arrowhead’s success over the course of the season.

NEWCOMER TO WATCH

+ RHP/OF Cameron Carter (2026) is an upside arm that made some noise over the winter—showcasing his growth and development within a long 6-foot-3, 168-pound frame. Carter will take on an expanded role for the Warhawks this spring—improving his velocity over the offseason. The right-hander sits in the mid-80s (T87 mph) with the fastball, and demonstrated an ability to control the pitch with ease at the South Milwaukee Preseason ID. Carter spins his secondary pitches at an effective rate as well—killing the rate on a changeup while increasing with the curveball. Carter presents mature traits, which plays at the plate as well. The right-handed hitter posted exit velocities in the low-90s and showcased advanced bat speed in his BP session. Carter will be a key piece for Arrowhead to maintain their successful stretch of play in past seasons.

TEAM OUTLOOK

While the Warhawks lost a couple of key pieces, they boast one of the top pitching staffs in the state with multiple competitive bats in an unproven lineup.

RHP Peter Kussow (2025; Louisville) is back and adding on to the depth of the plethora of arms Arrowhead presents—joining the aforementioned Buss and Carter. Kussow is a long, lean athlete standing at 6-foot-5, 202-pounds. The right-hander has advanced his arsenal to new heights—entering the spring as Wisconsin’s No. 3 prospect in the 2025 class. Kussow topped out at 93 mph at the West Milwaukee Preseason ID—showcasing an advanced ability to spin all of his pitches. Both of his breaking balls are sharp—averaging above 2,600 RPM. His presence on this pitching staff takes it to a new level, as he will be used in high-leverage starts and possible relief spots for the Warhawks.

Peter Kussow (2/17/24)

LHP Tanner Buhlmann (2026) and RHP Jack Roventini (2025) round out the starting rotation for Arrowhead heading into 2024. Buhlmann is an on-the-rise left-hander who got up to 82 mph in his showing at the West Milwaukee Preseason ID. Buhlmann has a good feel for the strike zone and displayed that while performing on the bump. Roventini—in a strong 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame—will play a similar role for the Warhawks as the season progresses.

Tanner Buhlmann (2/17/24)

RHP Brayden Ramus (2024; Wisconsin-River Falls), OF/RHP Brady Carpenter (2024) and RHP/INF Graiden Liethen (2025) will each play a key role in the back end of the bullpen. Liethen recently flashed a mid-80s fastball at the West Milwaukee Preseason ID, and will be looked to in this deep group.

Graiden Liethen (2/17/24)

As for the offense, Arrowhead will have to replace the aforementioned Hindle, Curry, Hess and Olson—who were key pieces spread throughout the order for the Warhawks.

OF Issei Takahashi (2024; Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) was a star for Arrowhead last season—stepping into an even more important role now in his senior season. The left-handed hitter batted .370 in the tough Classic Eight Conference, and was a consistent presence at the top of the order. Takahashi has a quick bat and the ability to barrel baseballs for power too.

Issei Takahashi (7/11/23)

C Josh Gilroy (2024; Wisconsin-Stevens Point) and C/OF PJ Hamel (2025) will be two bats that will continue to elevate their game throughout the 2024 season. While one will take the backstop position, both will be key contributors in the lineup. Gilroy took on the Top Prospect Games over the summer and showed well, especially behind the dish. On the other hand, Hamel ranks as the No. 46 in Wisconsin’s 2025 class.

PJ Hamel (2/17/24)

INF Brady Beck (2024) took a step in the right direction offensively over the summer circuit, and will look to maintain that momentum in his senior season. Beck provided some power from the right side, and the ability to consistently reach base and drive in runners. The right-handed hitter brings speed to the table as well, a common trait amongst a couple of his teammates at Arrowhead as well. Beck is coming off a season where he hit .327 in a Warhawk uniform.

Brady Beck (7/2/23)

UTL Wesley Lindee (2024; Concordia (WI)) and MIF Carter Scott (2024; Marian University (WI)) will be looked to in order to fill positions and add on to the depth for Arrowhead. Lindee and Scott are two quality athletes who put together competitive at bats at the plate. They will be needed on the defensive end to fill some missing pieces, in addition to their work in the batters box.

OF Yamato Takahashi (2025) rounds out the roster for the Warhawks as a newcomer to the outfield. Takahashi has a quality mix of power and speed in his arsenal, in addition to presenting a strong arm from the outfield. The right-hander throws from an over-the-top motion in a smooth fashion—reaching 85 mph from the position. Takahashi can handle the bat, too. The junior uses an opposite field approach to create power, which can play well at the varsity level while facing stronger pitching.

Yamato Takahashi (2/17/24)

BOTTOM LINE

+ Arrowhead lost a couple of key pieces from their 2023 group, but the Warhawks remain a competitive bunch with a talented plethora of arms to work with. While the bats will have to prove it against some of the best pitching in the state, head coach Nick Brengosz and the Warhawks have the talent and experience to make a run. They get their season started by hosting Fort Atkinson on Apr. 4.
