The Best of the Kenosha I.D.: Tyler Swanson

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the PBR Wisconsin team will host its first showcase of the 2020 season at the Fielder’s Choice Training Facility in Kenosha, Wis., for the annual Kenosha Preseason I.D. showcase.

Throughout this week, we’re highlighting some of this showcase’s top performers over the last few years. Next up in the series is SS Tyler Swanson (Burlington Cathloic Central), a senior Evansville commit. We’ve been fortunate enough to see Swanson at three Kenosha Preseason events, from 2017 through 2019. He’s an athletic middle infielder with some twitch to his game, and it shows itself especially well on defense. Swanson is a sub-7.00 runner and packs some surprising punch in his right-handed bat. 1.26.19 - Evansville commit. 5-foot-10, 185-pound middle infield prospect with athletic frame, well-proportioned, added more muscle since last seen. Right-handed hitter, wide and balanced setup, drop load, short stride. Quick twitch in swing, strong hands help create bat speed, present rhythm, ability to backspin balls. Bat path is level with extension through zone, regular hard contact, especially to pull side, 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. On defense, hands and feet work in conjunction, fluid and quick actions, plays through the ball. Short and loose arm action from a high ¾ slot with carry to first base, 87 mph across with accuracy. A 4.44 runner from home to first.

10/20/18 - Verbally committed to Evansville.

8/9/18 - 5-foot-10, 180-pound, right-handed hitting infielder, well-proportioned, athletic build, strength in frame. Present foot speed, 6.92 runner in the 60. Defensively, fluid feet, hands work, plays through the baseball, clean exchange, pats glove. Arm plays short and loose, quick arm speed, athletic ¾ to high ¾ slot, accurate throws carried 84 mph across the diamond. At the plate, wide setup, drop load, short stride. Strong hands, long, uphill bat path, flashed quick twitch in swing, ability to lift to both gaps, rhythm involved. Quick bat speed, exit velocity topped 92 mph from a tee. Legged out an infield single in-game, 4.29 down the line, plays hard.

7/8/18 - 5-foot-10, 180-pound infielder with strong build who played shortstop all weekend. Balanced setup and maintains balance through swing. Loose hands at the plate generated bat speed. Regularly made hard contact, gap-to-gap, and his above-average speed played well on the basepaths. Soft hands and strong, accurate arm from short.

1/27/18 - 5-foot-10, 180-pound infielder, strong sturdy build, added significant strength since last seeing him. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, solid balance through contact. Loose and strong actions at the plate, hands work quickly to the baseball, long high finish. Produced hard contact, gap to gap type, well above average bat speed, 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long and loose with some effort, high ¾ slot, creates carry, 86 mph across the diamond. Exchange can get long at times, plays through the baseball, occasionally with excess footwork, hands play. 4.37 runner home to first. 2020 follow.

1/28/17 - 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits form a balanced setup with a wide base. Short heel lift stride with a short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.51 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Quick footwork with soft hands playing thru the ball. Plays well on the run. Threw 78 mph across the infield.

3/29/15 - 5-foot-5, 120-pound infielder. Hits from a balanced stance, heel lift load. Path works, showed some extension. 73 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played from an over the top slot, with some accuracy, 60 mph across the infield. Ran a 5.01 down the line.
