PBR Wisconsin 2023 Winter Showcase Calendar: Release

By PBR Wisconsin Staff

On Nov. 7, Prep Baseball Report unveiled its national Preseason ID showcase schedule, including the seven events on PBR Wisconsin’s Preseason ID calendar. It all starts on Feb. 4 in Kenosha, with events spanning the state, leading to the start of the WIAA season in the early spring. These events serve as identifiers for the invite-only summer events, like Top Prospect Games and the PBR Future Games.

If you’re curious to learn more about the Prep Baseball Report’s showcase structure, here’s an idea of what you can expect while attending and following a PBR showcase.

WHAT IS A PRESEASON ID EVENT?

The Preseason ID series is unique in several ways. It serves as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, giving our scouts as well as college recruiters, a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the Preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains, primed for updating their PBR profile. All of which lends the perfect opportunity to secure invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events such as the Top Prospect Games, PBR Future Games, and more.

Our staff strategically hosts Preseason ID events throughout the state in search of players who have taken advantage of the offseason, identifying new prospects to add to our follow lists or players our staff is already familiar with who are on the rise.

All player information including tech metrics, stats, videos, scouting reports and more will be hosted to the Prep Baseball Report website, bolstering the player profile, which is subscribed to by more than 800 colleges across the country.

KENOSHA PRESEASON ID

One of the longest running events on our calendar, the Kenosha Preseason ID has typically been the kickstart to our winter season in the Badger State. Held at Puma Baseball Academy, this event provides us with an opportunity to check in on players from the Kenosha area and several players have popped here in the past. In 2022, we saw a few Class of ‘24 players emerge, as well as then-senior RHP Christian Schaller (Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, 2022), who made a loud PBR event debut and went on to commit to Madison JC after a strong spring season. Travel teammates and right-handed pitchers Matthew Schulz (Westosha Central, 2023) and Hayden Christiansen (Wilmot Union, 2023) each impressed here as well, and have since committed to UW-La Crosse.

EAU CLAIRE PRESEASON ID

For the first time ever, the PBR Wisconsin staff is making its inaugural preseason trip to western Wisconsin to host the Eau Claire Preseason ID at the brand new Valley Sports Academy in Lake Hallie, Wis. Last July, at the Western Wisconsin Open, rain moved us indoors where we experienced the VSA facility for the first time, and we’re eager to return to the state-of-the-art complex. This part of the state has been somewhat untapped by our staff, and we’re excited to grow some deeper roots with a portion of Wisconsin that plays some of the state’s best baseball.

Like our Eau Claire-area event, we'll be adding the Eastern Wisconsin Preseason ID event to our winter circuit for the first-ever time. The PBR Wisconsin staff will be hosting this showcase inside of the brand-new athletic center at Plymouth High School, a 42,000 sq. ft. complex. We've included a Sheboygan-area event on our summer's calendar for the better part of a decade, but we're excited to introduce an event to the area in the winter, too.

WEST MILWAUKEE PRESEASON ID

For the fourth straight year, our staff is eager to host this event at STiKS Academy on Feb. 18. We’ve had numerous PBR Future Game members emerge from this event in the past, and last year’s showcase was no different. There, we got another look at former Team Wisconsin member C Dominic Kibler (New Berlin West, 2023), who’s now committed to Kent State, and we were introduced to an eventual Future Games participant at this event as well: OF Bradyn Horn (Muskego, 2024). Many more Class of 2023 prospects reasserted themselves as some of the state’s best at this Waukesha-area showcase, like INF Connor Olson (Arrowhead, 2023; UW-Stevens Point) and RHP Camden Broske (West Bend West, 2023; Madison JC).

GREEN BAY PRESEASON ID

Last year’s Green Bay Preseason ID was our first-ever, and it was also one of the pound-for-pound most talented events on the calendar. ISA Academy in De Pere, Wis., will host us once again on Feb. 25, surely to review some of the Green Bay area’s best budding baseball talent – which translates to some of Wisconsin’s best. There were many Class of ‘23 prospects who participated in their very first PBR showcase at this event in 2022, and we came away with a list of high-follow players who emerged, like RHP/INF Benje Hencke (West De Pere, 2023; UW-Parkside), OF AJ Korth (Menasha, 2023), and OF Alex Hanneman (Appleton East, 2023) among many others. This event also helped our team locate some of the state’s top Class of 2024 talent, like C William Hoerner (Appleton North), who eventually earned himself a spot at the PBR Future Games, as well as OF/RHP Easton Arendt (De Pere), LHP/1B Brady Koester (Kimberly), and RHP/INF Avery Duncan (Notre Dame Academy).

SOUTH MILWAUKEE PRESEASON ID

The oldest annual event on our showcase calendar has given us the opportunity to see some of the region’s best talent, and some of the best players to come out of the state. Held at Hitters Baseball Academy, this year’s event will take place on March 5, and we’re anticipating another loaded roster – something that’s become the norm from this showcase. For reference, it was at this event last year that JD Dix (Whitefish Bay, 2024; Alabama) became one of the nation’s top ‘24s, and not just Wisconsin’s top ranked, and . Additionally, several other ‘24s went on to eventually earn invitations to the Future Games stemming from this showcase, like 1B/LHP Jackson Brewer (Homestead), RHP Nolan Buss (Arrowhead; Kansas State), RHP Brennen Grams (Kimberly), LHP Tannis Lange (Waukesha South; Ohio State), INF Brock Lulewicz (Muskego; Wichita State), OF Cade Palkowski (Oak Creek; North Carolina), 1B Aren Robinson (Brookfield Central), and OF Roman Sienza (Mukwonago; Butler).

MADISON PRESEASON ID

The Madison Preseason ID has consistently been the largest event on our showcase calendar, and we saw over 200 players from the 2023-25 grad classes this past March. Held at GRB Academy in Windsor, multiple next-level recruits emerged from our most recent Madison-area event, like Future Gamers 3B/OF Eason Hurd (Ashwaubenon, 2024; Creighton), RHP Nate Langbehn (D.C. Everest, 2024; Wichita State), RHP Jack DeTienne (Verona Area, 2024), and LHP Easton Bobb (Chippewa Falls, 2024; St. Thomas, MN). We also got looks at more of the state’s top ‘24 talent at this event last winter, like RHP/INF Noah Wech (Manitowoc Lincoln; Oklahoma State) and OF/LHP Logan Dunn (Wautoma; Missouri State).

Senior right-handers Cole Selvig (Eau Claire Regis; Texas), Roman Trapani (Eau Claire Memorial; North Dakota State), RHP Quinn Falish (De Pere; Michigan State), LHP Riley Peterson (Verona Area; UW-Milwaukee), and RHP/INF Noah Dreier (Brookfield Central; Saint Xavier) also starred here.
